Descarte

Descartes exists for one reason: maximize what your amplifier can do and reveal every musical detail.

No passive crossover. Each driver is powered directly by your amplifier.

Bass Impact Circuit. Cabinets volume-matched to exact woofers. Fastest bass transients. Intense bass detail.

You control the crossover point, the slope, the gain. You hear your amp, not our parts bin.

Cabinet: Birch Plywood, symmetrical pairs. No MDF. Choice of Xeodur Colors or hand rubbed oil finish.

Each aperiodically-damped cabinet individually sized to the exact woofer. Volume within .01 cu ft or it becomes firewood.

Requirements: Biamplification. Two stereo amplifiers or four mono blocks. Active crossover or DSP ahead of the amps. If you don’t own this yet, I’ll spec it with you.

The Descartes Tweeter

Natural. Airy. Disappears.

No metal zing, no plastic honk. Cymbals sound like brass, not spray paint. Hear the sticks hit. Never beams or spits. You hear air around instruments, not "tweeter." Off-axis response is wide. Stand up, sit down, or walk around. The image doesn't collapse.

Doesn't do 105dB like a PA. Won't win SPL contests. But at sane 85 dB to 95dB listening levels, it's liquid. You won’t hear the tweeter, or I failed. Doesn't add “sparkle” or exaggerated “detail.” It removes itself. It lets the music breathe. Silk for your ears, not for show.

The Descarte Woofer

Forgiving. Musical. Old-school European. This is the sound of a '70s monitor. Bass is round and warm, not tight and analytical. It won't dig to 30Hz, but 55-150Hz has weight and tone. The kind of midbass that makes upright bass sound like wood, not a sine wave. Mids arev oiced to have that subtle paper "cone cry" at 1 kHz to 2 kHz. Why? Perfect vocals. Nina Simone gets resonance. Horns have bite without ice pick.

Hand-Coated Paper doesn't lie. The Descartes Woofer tells the truth about tone, not just frequency. Warm, present, and never fatiguing, the woofer for listeners, not oscilloscopes.

BBC monitor DNA. Jazz, acoustic, vocal-forward. Pairs with soft domes like a fine Kansas Whiskey with open-flame grilled Ribeye.
